Let’s get into it. Today we’re going to talk about booking a one time home cleaning, sometimes called an on-demand cleaning. This is when you’re not wanting to set up regular recurring service – you just want to have the job done one time, that’s it. Sometimes people get a one time home cleaning every two months or seasonally, but it’s still just considered a one-time service.
The first question we get a lot is, does a one time home cleaning always have to be a deep clean? With most cleaning companies, yes. But Dazzle does have a special thing that we do, which I’ll talk about in a moment. While the one time home cleaning is typically a deep clean, you can choose to only have specific rooms cleaned so it doesn’t take as long and doesn’t cost as much.
You might say, I only want the kitchen done, or I only want the kitchen and the bathrooms or only the upstairs. You can choose the rooms. Now, why does a one time home cleaning have to be a deep cleaning, even if it’s just in those particular rooms? It’s because it takes so much longer to do the cleaning on that first time.
If you have regular recurring service, let’s say you get your house cleaned every two weeks, but your house cleaner is out of town or sick or whatever, they can adjust your price. I know at Dazzle, we would adjust your price and the length of time so that we could go in there and just do upkeep, like a maintenance clean for you, so it wouldn’t be as expensive – basically we wouldn’t do a deep clean for you.
At Dazzle, we also have another service called our Express Cleaning, and this is for people who want just the bare bones basics done, and this service is cheaper than a regular one time home cleaning or deep cleaning. During our Express Clean, we clean your tubs, toilets, sinks, showers, counters, mirrors, floors, faucets, take out the trash, recycling, compost.
So it’s really basic. We’re also cleaning the tops of your counters in your kitchen, the inside and outside of your microwave, the stovetop, but we’re not making beds or changing sheets. We’re not doing any dusting. We’re not cleaning baseboards, doors, door frames, light switches, outlet covers, whatever. None of that’s getting done. It’s real basic cleaning. But it is a cheaper service if you’re just wanting the floors and your showers, things like that done.
So when you are booking your one time home cleaning service, you want to be really upfront with the company when you’re getting your quotes about your current situation. If they’re not doing an in-person quote, if they’re doing it online or over the phone, they’ll ask you questions to gauge how clean your home is.
You just want to be really upfront about that because there’s a lot of adjustments that you can make and it’s a lot better to make those adjustments and have conversations about how we’re going to get your home cleaned when you’re booking it rather than when the booking is already taking place.
Just be sure to let the company know what your situation is. And if your house is a disaster zone, let them know, and they’ll give you options. Like at Dazzle, we would say, okay, so it’s going to be this much, but you don’t want to pay this much. So what we can do for you is only clean your kitchen and your bathrooms or whatever. Or we can not do the baseboards and the doors and the door frames and light switches. We can give you options, right? But it’s really good to get all of that done when you’re booking the service so that you know exactly what you’re getting. It’s crystal clear and so you’re really happy with your service.
It’s also important to note that with a one time home cleaning, you can’t always just upgrade to a full cleaning if that’s not what you booked, because sometimes the schedule’s just too full. You can’t add more time to a particular job for that day. It’s great to have the conversation beforehand so we can make sure that we have enough time on our schedule to get you exactly what you’d like.

Okay, so how long does it take to complete a one time home cleaning? Basically it’s a deep clean, so it’s going to take three to five times the amount of time that it would take if we were there every week or every two weeks.
For example, if you have a three bedroom, two and a half bathroom, 1,500 square foot townhouse, which is very common in Seattle, that would take about eight hours to get done. If you have a one bedroom, one bathroom, it’d take between three and four hours, probably closer to three and a half, four. If you’re a minimalist and you live by yourself and you don’t have any pets and you eat out a lot and you don’t cook and you’re relatively clean, it’s going to be more like three hours. If you have a couple of cats and you cook everything at home, it’s going to be more like four, maybe a little more hours.
So if you have a 2,000 square foot three bedroom, four bathroom home, it is going to take about 11 to 13 hours depending on if you have pets, how many people live there, etc.
So can you get a discount? Yeah, there’s definitely discounts available for one time cleanings. The best discounts are typically available when you’re setting up regular recurring weekly, bi-weekly, or even monthly service because cleaning companies are often really happy to get that first cleaning for you at a discounted rate because they’re hoping to have a long-term client. But that being said, you can still find deals for just getting a discount on your one time cleaning.
