The Dazzle Podcast is brought to you by The Dazzle Cleaning Company, the gayest cleaning company in America. But don’t worry, you don’t have to be part of the LGBTQIA community to hire or to work at Dazzle. I’m Logan, the founder of The Dazzle Cleaning Company. Welcome to The Dazzle Podcast. Each podcast will either be labeled as a client podcast or as an employee podcast. And the
only point of the podcast is to get you information in the way you want it. Okay, let’s get into it.
Logan Taylor (00:42.208) right. So today’s topic is everything you need to know about a move -out cleaning, including what’s included in a move -out cleaning, what’s not included in a move -out cleaning, how much a move -out cleaning typically costs. And we have a move -out cleaning checklist and your move -out cleaning hiring guide, which you can download from the show notes. So is a move -out clean the same as a deep clean? And it’s not.
In a move out clean, the home is completely empty. So nobody’s living there anymore. There’s no furniture. You’re completely moved out of the home. If someone’s still living there, then it’s a deep clean. And I’m talking about, I mean, that’s how we do it at my company, the Dossel Cleaning Company, but I’m talking about industry norms now. That’s pretty much how you’re going to find it across the board. So if you book a deep cleaning and…
your cleaners or cleaning company arrives and the home is completely empty, the cleaners are going to be confused and they’re going to get in contact with the office and the office is going to hopefully reach out to you and find out what you want to do. Because it’s just different things that are included. So a move -out cleaning and a deep cleaning are two different things. Mainly at a move -out cleaning, we’re going to clean, and I believe most cleaning companies are going to clean
the inside of your major appliances, inside of cabinets, things like that, which typically that’s not done at a deep cleaning. So what is included in a move out cleaning? During a move out cleaning, we’re going to start with the basics, tubs, toilets, sinks, showers, counters, mirrors, floors, faucets. And then we do a little bit deeper. We’re going to hand wash the baseboards, the doors, door frames, window sills, window frames, vacuum the window tracks.
clean the railings, and then we’re going to clean the inside and the outside of all your cabinets, drawers, shelves. So typically that’s in the kitchen and the bathroom, but sometimes, especially in older homes, you’ll have like built -in shelves or cabinets in other rooms, and we’ll do all of that as well. And we’re going to clean
Logan Taylor (02:56.842)
inside and outside of all the major appliances, the inside and outside of your refrigerator, your oven, your dishwasher, your washer, and your dryer. This is a place where if you’re when you’re hiring a cleaning company, you’ll want to ask about those things if they don’t tell you what’s included because there’s a little bit of diversity among those. Not all cleaning companies do that. Okay, so when we’re cleaning your fridge,
If it’s on wheels, we’re going to pull your refrigerator out and we’re going to clean the sides of it, under it, and behind it. If it’s not on wheels, we’re not going to do that because we don’t want to damage your floor. With the oven, we’re not going to pull it out, even if it’s on those little sliders, because they, it doesn’t always go back in flush. Like you pull it out to clean under.
and behind the oven, if you push it back in, it’s not always flush with the counters. So we’ll do that for you, but only by request. The other, the other problem with, or the other reason why we don’t pull out the oven is that it can sometimes scratch the floors, even if you do have those little sliders on it. All right, so the difference between a move -out cleaning and a move -in cleaning. So during a move -in cleaning, we’re not
cleaning the insides of your cabinets, drawers, and shelves, and we’re not cleaning the inside of your appliances, but we’re cleaning the outside of them. So it’s just a little bit more of a limited service. This is because typically if you are booking a move -in cleaning, the home has already been cleaned when people were moving out of the home. So you may have had like contractors or photographers, leasing agents, real estate agents, people looking to rent or buy the home come in there, but
They’re just like walking through, right? They’re not like doing laundry and washing dishes and making a mess. So it’s just a more simple and faster service. And it certainly doesn’t need to have the inside of all of those items, like the cabinets and drawers done. So if you’re moving into a home and the home is filthy, then you probably don’t want to book a move in cleaning. You probably want to book a move out cleaning because you probably want to have everything cleaned inside and out.
Logan Taylor (05:15.274)
And what is not included in a move -out cleaning? So there’s some things that just aren’t included in a move -out cleaning because of training, equipment, workers’ compensation, classification, insurance, whatever the reason. So what is not included in our move -out cleaning? And you’ll find that this is pretty typical stuff, but you’ll want to check with your specific cleaning company that you’re hiring. Windows, walls,
blinds, chandeliers, light bulbs, fireplaces. None of that’s included. And anything that can’t be reached with a two -step step ladder and a seven -foot extension duster doesn’t get cleaned. And garages aren’t included in a move -out cleaning. And unfinished basements or unfinished attics aren’t included in a move -out cleaning. And nothing outside of the home is included. Okay, so how do you prepare for your move -out?
The day that you move out cleaning is scheduled. You want to make sure that the cleaners have access to your home. However, that may be so maybe there’s a key or a code or you’re going to be there. Someone’s going to be there to let us in or there’s a leasing office or a front desk or something, but we just need to have access to the home and the water and the electricity need to be turned on, which is never a problem in apartments, but sometimes for single family homes that are changing ownership, that can be a problem.
And it’s just not possible to do an effective clean without those things. So you want to make sure that those are on. And you don’t want to have other service providers or people in the home on the day of the cleaning. So no painters, contractors, electricians, plumbers, certainly no movers. That’s all going to make it a lot more difficult to get your home cleaned. So it’s going to make it take longer. And also.
these people, they’re gonna make a mess. And even if they’re really good, whatever, I mean, just walking through a freshly cleaned home, especially if it’s empty, anything will make a mess. It should be, you it’s gonna look pristine when you leave. any little thing will really pop out. And we like to be able to guarantee our work, as most cleaning companies do. So you don’t want to have other people working that day. Now, if you are having like crunch time and it’s…
Logan Taylor (07:39.574)
Whatever, you have to move and you have to have the movers come and they’re going to be coming on the same day as the cleaners or whatever. Reach out to your cleaning company and let them know the situation so that they can work with you because they might be able to start in a certain part of the home or whatever. it’s communication is key. It’ll definitely make for a better service for you and everybody involved. right. And now we’ll have a
Quick word from our sponsor, which, wouldn’t you know it, is also me. And then when we come back, we’ll talk about how long a move -out cleaning typically takes, how much a move -out cleaning costs, and red flags to pay attention to when hiring a cleaning company.

Okay, so how long does it take to complete a move out clean? It typically takes four to five times as long to complete as it would take to do a standard maintenance cleaning. Which is why Dazzle and most cleaning companies you hire will send a larger team to your home so that it can be completed in a reasonable amount of time. And, you know, certainly within one day. If you’re like have a big house, or even like a townhouse, it
Logan Taylor (09:23.848)
to be more than eight hours to get that clean, so we have multiple people, so it’s just done in one day. How long does it take? Okay, let’s use a couple different examples here. Let’s say that you live in a one -bedroom, one -bathroom home, and it’s just you and your partner, and you don’t have kids, you don’t have pets, and you’ve only lived there for a year. It’s going to take about five hours to complete that service. If you are super clean, and I will just say super clean, then it’s going to be faster.
And if you’re a little piggly wiggly, it’s going to take a little bit longer. If you live in a 1500 square foot, three bedroom, 2 .5 bath townhouse, which is the sort of size of home I like to use in lots of examples because it’s very typical of a Seattle home, that will take about nine hours. So then why does it take only four more hours to do a whole 1500 square foot townhouse with three bedrooms and 2 .5 bathrooms?
as it would take to do a one bedroom, one bathroom, 700 square foot apartment. The reason is because in both of those homes, the majority of the time spent cleaning is going to be spent in the kitchen and in the primary bathroom that you’re using every day to get dressed in. So the other things are going to go quicker. It’s a little bit different than a deep clean. There’s not such a…
big difference between the two, mean it’s still a big difference, but it doesn’t take that much of a percentage, it doesn’t take such a large percentage of time of the job to do the kitchen and bathroom in a deep clean as it does in a move -out cleaning because in the move -out cleaning we’re cleaning the insides of your cabinets and your drawers and your shelves and the insides of your appliances, which is a deeply time -intensive process when done properly.
How much does a move -out cleaning cost? Move -out cleaning for a one -bedroom, one -bathroom apartment is going to cost about $450 in Seattle. If you are living in a major, any major city in the United States, well, any expensive major city, Seattle, New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles, it’s going to be that or maybe a little more.
Logan Taylor (11:45.55)
If you’re living in a place that’s more rural or just smaller, or maybe doesn’t have, it just has a lower cost of living. It’ll, it’ll be less expensive. And that’s true even in Washington. Like if you’re living east of the mountains, it’s not going to cost as much. It’s not going to cost $450. It’ll be cheaper for you there. And a townhouse. So that’s the 1500 square foot, three bedroom, 2 .5 bathroom townhouse.
In Seattle, it’ll be about $800. And the factors that are going into your pricing, it’s about how long we think it’s going to take. And so if you have, you know, if the home is dirtier, it’s going to take longer. How do we know if a home is dirtier? We’re looking at specific factors, like how long have you lived there? If you’ve lived in your house for 20 years, even if you’re a really clean person, when you pull stuff out, it’s just going to be dirtier. This is…
almost universally true. If you have pets, if you have dogs, if you have children, if you have a bunch of roommates, these things are all going to typically lead the home to being a little bit dirtier. So people that tend to be on the
cleaner, easier to clean side of the spectrum are single people or couples that don’t have lot of other outside influences. I mean, this makes perfect sense, right? You think about it for a minute, you’ve been to your friend’s house that have six children. It’s crazy in there. Okay, so actually my sister had a baby, my niece Cora, who’s a year who I’m just obsessed with this kid. She’s, and I get to spend every Wednesdays with her and I love that. And she just will like,
She’ll just eat and she just likes to drop things on the floor, like the food, because my sister taught me that she’s learning about what happens when you do things like gravity or whatever. And I don’t know. She’s just a mess is the point. I mean, she’s a mess everywhere you go. This is, this is what it’s like. Okay. So is there a way to get your move, your move out cleaning cheaper? There is. So what you want to do is customize the scope of work.
Logan Taylor (14:01.698)
to get you a cheaper price. For example, you could say we only want to have the kitchen and the bathrooms cleaned, or we don’t need to have the inside of the appliances or the insides of cabinets cleaned, or we only need to have the upstairs cleaned, something like that. So you can negotiate on what’s going to be completed with whatever cleaning company you decide to hire. Of course, you could look for discounts and promotions and special offers, and while
I think that most professional cleaning companies do have lots of different offers and stuff that they, that they offer from time to time. They’re not typically available for move out cleanings. And the reason is that move out cleanings are so long and hard and you know, our employees and the goal is always to keep the employees as happy as, as we can. You know, they’re not, they’ll do, I mean, they’ll, you know, they’re happy to do a move out clean, but they don’t want to be like doing.
They don’t want us to be filling their schedule up with move out cleanings. And so for that reason, it’s, you know, harder to find deals on move out cleanings than other cleanings. But of course you can always look. So the way to get it cheaper is to negotiate with the company on a scope of work. All right.
And now it’s time for this week’s Snappy News, Snappy News, Snappy News. This week’s Snappy News, infamous grifter Billy McFarland, fresh out of prison, is rebooting the infamous Frye Festival with tickets ranging up to $1 .1 million. Former investor Andy King, who lost $1 million in the original disaster, warns that McFarland’s new venture is already fraught with red flags and lackluster planning.
I can’t look at this story without thinking about how white men are so much more likely to fail up or given so many opportunities. It’s insane. Ohio Senator JD Vance dismissed Taylor Swift’s endorsement of Kamala Harris, claiming Americans aren’t swayed by billionaire celebrities. Social media was quick to highlight the irony with critics pointing out that Trump is in fact a former reality TV star billionaire. And The Onion is reporting that Reagan
Logan Taylor (16:25.302)
Olympic break dancers, apology to the break dancing community has sparked outrage from the apology community. And that is this week’s snappy news, snappy news, snappy news. How far in advance should you book your cleaning? Your move out cleaning. Okay, they take a long time, right? So they take more time on the schedule. So they’re harder for cleaning companies to book. So you want to book if you can.
Two weeks is a really good idea if you want the last week of the month or the first few days of the next month, even longer is your safest bet because there’s always a lot of move out cleanings during that time. If you’ve already passed that limit and you still need to book, just call cleaning companies or fill out their form online or send them an email or whatever. And most cleaning companies are going to work hard to get you in. I know at Dazzle where we try really diligently to make room for everybody.
So ask, but if you are, especially if you’re needing a specific day, book out two to three weeks in advance. It’s your best bet. And what to look for when hiring a cleaning company to complete your move out cleaning. Well, first of all, you want to get multiple quotes. So it’s a good idea to get three different quotes and then check out the reviews on Google or Yelp. These are great places to look for reviews because both Google and Yelp verify all the reviews. they’re.
They’re going to be, you know, truthful reviews or like real reviews, unless the cleaning company is up to some really sort of complicated nonsense to get fake reviews. But I mean, I don’t even, I imagine that would be more trouble than it is even worth. So you, what I’m saying is you can typically, you can rely upon those. It’s not like an Amazon review, right? Everybody knows Amazon reviews can be faked really easily. Google and Yelp reviews, not as much.
Okay, so if you get three quotes and one quote is much more expensive or much less expensive than the others, there’s probably a reason for that. So if they’re charging more than other companies, the most likely reason is that they have more items included in their standard move out cleaning. They’re probably doing more things than the companies who gave you a lower quote. So compare.
Logan Taylor (18:45.917)
what is included with each company. If they’re charging much less, it’s probably because they have fewer items that are included. Or the other possibility is that they’re a very small business or a one -person show and these types of businesses just charge less because typically they’re not paying for
workers’ compensation and insurance and payroll taxes and bonding and B &O taxes and training people. It’s just, you know, if they’re just doing it themselves, it’s going to be a lot cheaper. And if you do ha— and these people can do a great job because you’re getting the owner most of the time, right? They’re going to like go out there and they’re going to bust their butt for you. The problem is that there’s usually a lot more chaos in those businesses. So it’s—
You know, you’re, you’re more likely to not have the cleaner show up that day. And then of course, you know, you want to think about things like insurance and if something’s damaged or things like that. So that is, that explains, you know, some of the variants. But if you want to know more about the pricing of Move Out Cleans, I wrote an article about it that I’ll upload to our blog soon. And it’s even more detailed for those of you that want it.
So what are red flags to look out for when hiring a cleaning company to complete your move out cleaning? First, if they have bad reviews or I mean, every, businesses are going to get the occasional bad review, but I mean, if they have like a lot of bad reviews, especially if they’re like specific and are giving examples and the people writing the reviews don’t sound crazy, that’s a red flag. Companies that use high pressure sales tactics.
That’s the red flag. If they don’t specify what is and is not included in their move out cleaning. It’s not even, I mean, I guess it is a red flag, but it’s, it’s just what’s happening here is that they are, they’re kind of signaling a lack of organization, which in itself might not be that bad. But what one really wants is for you, the client to have the same.
Logan Taylor (21:03.315)
idea and picture in your head of what’s going to be completed at the move -out cleaning, as the person who is managing or owning the cleaning company, as is the person who is doing the cleaning. These people all need to have the same shared vision. If they don’t, then you run into trouble. So hopefully they’re being really upfront and organized and transparent about what is and is not included. And also they’ve put it in writing.
even if it’s just an email or even a text message. You know, it’s just something so that you can go back and see what you’re paying for. Finally, if a company has suspiciously low prices, That is a red flag. So the example of this is dazzling cleaning.
my nemesis who they do the $19 for four hours of cleaning. Well, that is suspicious because let me just get my trusty giant calculator here because I don’t do math in my head in front of the camera. So that means that you’re paying $4 .75 an hour, $4 .75 per hour for that cleaning. Now that doesn’t seem to be
what the going rate is, how do you even get somebody to show up for that? Well, you don’t. So there’s going to be a catch. So if you get a suspiciously low price, do a little bit of digging, find out why. Okay, so questions to ask when you’re hiring a cleaning company to complete your move out cleaning. First of all, in the show notes, we have a guide for when you’re hiring a cleaning company. So you can like have the questions to ask and compare the three.
companies that you’re getting, and we also have the move out cleaning checklist. So these questions are on there, but you want to ask, are you insured? Do you guarantee your work? Of course at Dazzle, of course we’re going to guarantee our work. Do you bring your own supplies and equipment? You could ask what happens if something is broken or damaged. And most importantly, what is included in the service and what is not included in the service?
Logan Taylor (23:22.539)
That’s where most of the problems come in. You want to be on the same page on that one. Okay, so how to book a move -out cleaning. Probably the way that most people would do it is to Google move -out clean near me or move -out cleaning near me and find three companies with good reviews and then either call them or email them or send them or go onto their website and get a quote that way and compare three different
companies for what you’re going to get and what the prices are. And if you’re in the Seattle metro area and you are thinking about or looking to book a move out cleaning, visit us online at www .dazzlecompany .com and see your instant price. Or you can call us at 1 -800 -214 -1417 or email us at
cleaned, C -E -N -E -D at dazzlecompany .com and we will get you a price and we will do a fabulous job for you. All right, that’s it. Thanks a lot, eh?
